V-Model

The V-Model is a software and system development methodology where each phase of the development lifecycle has a corresponding verification or validation phase. When the phases are mapped on a timeline they form a V shape: requirements decompose down the left arm; verification and validation activities accumulate up the right arm.

IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 mandate the V-Model structure for safety-related systems. Each level of specification (system, hardware, software) must have a corresponding test plan established during that specification phase, not after implementation. The ASAP Platform supports the full V-Model lifecycle with traceable links from requirements through evidence.
