HARA

Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) is a systematic engineering method for identifying hazards, estimating associated risks, and determining safety goals. The method is required by ISO 26262 for automotive systems and is widely applied in robotics and autonomous system safety programs.

Each hazard is analyzed using three parameters: Severity (S), Exposure (E), and Controllability (C). The combination determines the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL), from ASIL A (lowest) to ASIL D (highest), or confirms a QM (Quality Management) classification for hazards below the ASIL threshold.
