T1/T2 Tool Qualification

T1/T2

T1 and T2 are tool qualification categories defined in IEC 61508-3. The classification governs how rigorously a software tool used in a safety program must be qualified.

T1:

A tool whose output is not directly used in safety function development and that cannot introduce errors that propagate to the safety function. No qualification activities are required.

T2:

A tool whose output is used as part of the safety case or safety evidence may require qualification so errors are not introduced without detection. Fennec's specified ASAP tools are qualified by TÜV Rheinland as Tool Class 2 (T2) offline support tools under IEC 61508-3:2010, Clause 7.4.4. The qualification applies only to those named tools and versions; the project's safety evidence remains subject to review.
